As part of its global sales push, the maker of the much beloved Original Glazed donuts is opening its first store in Cairo, one of North Africa’s most populous cities.
Krispy Kreme has worked with franchise partner Americana Group, which currently operates over 200 Krispy Kreme stores in a number of countries including Kuwait and the UAE. Through the partnership, the brand is expecting to open up to 10 stores in Egypt over the next 12 months.
The move comes as the company seeks to build on a strong performance in its 30 international markets where sales growth more than doubled in the last quarter. According to the company’s CEO, more than three-quarters of the company’s revenue came from the US in 2020 and expanding outside of this market remains a priority.
Chief Executive Officer, Mike Tattersfied, commented: “The work that we’re doing right now, we know it works across all continents. When the North African opportunity came, it wasn’t that hard for us to think about the 100 million population and 20 million in Cairo.”
