Bennetts, which is hailed as the world’s oldest department store and closed in 2019, is set to reopen in Derby as a pop-up store.
The 285-year old department store has been bought out of administration by local businessman Paul Hurst, who plans to reopen a series of smaller stores with the first set to launch later this year. The pop-up store, called Seasons by Bennetts is due to open on Sadler Gate, in Derby’s historical cathedral quarter.
The brand’s former location at Irongate is close to the planned pop-up and Hurst has commented that he hoped to restore and reopen the Irongate location; however the level of work that is required for the listed building has slowed progress for this.
French Sole owner, London Sole operated the Bennetts brand from April 2019 but just four months later, Bennetts fell into administration after London Sole failed to meet a number of payments.
