Amazon Go Eyes Suburban Locations

A new store is planned for Mill Creek, WA, that will cover 6,150sq ft, making it substantially larger than current Amazon Go stores located in more urban areas.

The retail and technology giant sees its new locations as ideally suited to meet the needs of customers who live and work in the suburbs as opposed to cities. According to a statement issued by Amazon, the company believes that “local residents and commuters will enjoy the ease of our Just Walk Out Shopping to quickly and conveniently shop from an expanded selection of tasty, ready-to-eat food items and grab-and-go beverages and snacks in their own neighbourhood.”

Amazon currently has 24 Go stores operating in the US, with units in Chicago, New York and Seattle. The number of Amazon Go units executed is well below Amazon’s original growth projections which slated that 150 locations would be open and operating by the end of 2020.

In other aspects of the business, Amazon has teamed up with Starbucks on a new joint concept store, bringing together Starbucks’ Pick-Up concept and Amazon Go.
