Crowdfunded Eatery Snaps Up Space at Bedford’s Riverside

Foxy Wings and Olive Tree are the latest openings at Riverside Bedford, the 3.6 acre Vue-anchored mixed use town centre development that borders the River Great Ouse in north Bedford, managed by specialist asset manager Realm.

Foxy Wings has taken 3,530sq ft at the scheme, with a new family-run restaurant that launched last month to an excited local community. The restaurant became a symbol of adversity during the pandemic, having started as a lockdown delivery service. Foxy Wings’ letting followed a successful Crowdfunder campaign during the pandemic in 2020, after local diners took the new business to their hearts and raised over £45,000, 200 per cent of the goal to make the permanent 100-seater home at Riverside a reality.

The uniquely fitted out venue offers a nod to the local community with personal touches and stories of other independent traders and producers from the town including a local artist’s murals and light fittings and a wide selection of draught beers curated by a local brewer.

Hot on their heels, a second new independent restaurant signing is due to open at Riverside Bedford in the coming weeks; Olive Tree, a Turkish and Mediterranean restaurant offering freshly cooked traditional dishes has taken 3,326sq ft. It will become the eighth restaurant for customers of Riverside, enhancing the F&B offering and further affirming Riverside’s reputation within the community as a hotspot for all day and evening leisure, dining and entertainment.
