The Forest Lagoon to Open in Iceland

Joining Iceland’s much-loved lagoons is the Forest Lagoon situated in the north of the country and created by the same team behind the Blue Lagoon.

In 2014 a group of construction workers were drilling a tunnel through Vaðlaheiði Mountain where they found a source of geothermally-heated water. Now, that water has been channelled into creating and new spa and the Forest Lagoon.

Situated in a forest filled with pine and birch trees, the new lagoon offers stunning views over both the Eyja Fjord and the city of Akureyri. Designed by Basalt Architects, the new location will bring together one very large 5,700sq ft pool, a smaller, hotter pool, and another ‘bath’ designed specifically for cold dips. There is also a sauna, a relaxation room and an on-site restaurant.

The Forest Lagoon’s standout point is the two swim-up bars that the destination boasts, serving glasses of local beer or wine to be enjoyed whilst taking in the views and enjoying the comforting warmth of the water.
