Aldi to Open 150 Stores and new DC

The discounter grocer plans to add 150 new stores and open new regional distribution centres across the country.

Aldi is targeting the Gulf Coast as its aggressive expansion continues. In the Southeast, Aldi will open its first store in Louisiana, its 38th state of operation today in Lafayette.

In addition, the company plans to open two more Gulf Coast stores in early March. Twenty additional stores are planned to open throughout the region by year-end. To support its growth in the area, Aldi will open a 564,000sq ft distribution centre in Loxley, Alabama later this year. The facility will eventually support as many as 100 new stores throughout Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle.

With more than 2,100 stores across 38 states, Aldi is on track to become the third-largest grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022. (More than 1,000 of its stores opened during the past decade.)

“There is nothing like watching shoppers discover Aldi for the first time,” said Jason Hart, CEO, Aldi US. “There’s a moment of surprise when they realize just how much they can save by shopping with us. We can’t wait to share that experience with more customers as we add new stores across the Southeast.”
