Gulf Kingdom Unveils New Global Destination

Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Crown Prince and Chairman of Neom, the upcoming $500bn city of the future, has announced plans for Trojena, a new global destination for mountain tourism.

Outdoor skiing will be a key feature of Trojena that will provide a unique experience never before witnessed in the region, especially in Gulf countries known for their desert climates. Amateurs and professionals alike will be able to enjoy the many ski runs on offer, not far from the blue waters of the Red Sea as Neom stake its claim in the global adventure tourism sector.

The new year-round destination will include a ski village, ultra-luxury family and wellness resorts, a wide range of retail stores and restaurants, in addition to sports activities, including a ski slope, watersports and mountain biking, as well as an interactive nature reserve.

The project, which will also feature a man-made freshwater lake, The Bow Hotel and the Vault, a vertical village within the mountain, is set for completion by 2026, a statement said. It added that Trojena expects to attract 700,000 visitors and 7,000 permanent residents to live by 2030 while all construction activity will adhere to Neom’s strict environmental principles, which include a commitment to minimise disruption to the local ecology and to ensure long-term sustainability.

Trojena aims to act as a major catalyst for economic growth and diversification in Saudi Arabia as part of Vision 2030’s tourism goals to create more than 10,000 jobs and add SR3bn to the Kingdom’s GDP by 2030.
