OpenAire, has announced it will install a retractable roof for an Atlantic City, US venue.
The ground was broken in January, a new 100,000-square-foot space located at Showboat Resort Atlantic City, scheduled to open to the public in 2023.
The waterpark will be adjacent to the existing Showboat Resort and will consist of an enclosure made completely of aluminium designed to resist the corrosive effects of the beachfront ocean air and the waterpark itself. The roof is will protect swimmers from inclement weather, ensuring the park can remain open year-round. It will also be maintenance-free and naturally ventilated, reducing overall energy consumption and costs for the waterpark.
The building, which stretches over 550 feet long, will also feature a variety of adult and child-friendly zones, including large sliding doors that open the space out to the boardwalk.
Island Waterpark will comprise a comprehensive range of attractions including pools, water slides, a lazy river and party rooms. These will be accompanied poolside by catering outlets, retail areas and lounge zones.
OpenAire has specialised in the designing of high-quality and environmentally-aware retractable roof structures and skylights for over 30 years, bringing its knowledge and expertise to the prestigious water park project.
The waterpark is the latest component of Atlantic City’s first year-round family resort, which follows the recent installation of Showboat Resort’s new amusement arcade. The Lucky Snake is an 85,000 square foot arcade with over three hundred games, esports gaming and a boxing ring. Other offerings include a sports bar, live entertainment venues, and a speakeasy that pays homage to the area’s history stemming from the prohibition era.
This Spring will also see the notable addition of indoor go-karts, which will convert the establishment into the largest arcade on the East Coast.
The new waterpark will assist Showboat Resort in its mission to become the definitive family-friendly resort destination in Atlantic City. The venue’s investment in new water attractions, combined with its beachfront location is designed to appeal to groups of all sizes and ages.
