Tokyo Disneyland Unveils $438m Renovation

Oriental Land Co has announced that Tokyo Disneyland’s Space Mountain and the surrounding area in Tomorrowland will undergo a major renovation.

Space Mountain, a thrilling indoor roller coaster that sends riders flying through space, has been a popular attraction at Tokyo Disneyland since the park’s opening in 1983.

The current Space Mountain coaster will close in 2024. The JPY 56 billion ($438m) project will open in 2027. The new Space Mountain will feature ‘enhanced performance’ and immersive special effects.

“This entirely new attraction will maintain its original concept as an indoor roller coaster, but will have enhanced performance and immersive special effects that will give guests even more thrills on this exciting rocket ride,” OLC said.

The renovated Tomorrowland plaza will be inspired by a future ‘where humans are in harmony with nature’. After dark, the area will be a ‘spectacular world of light and soundscapes’.
