Malmö Designer Village Set for 2023 Construction

Scandinavia’s largest outlet Malmö Designer Village is approaching 40 per cent of space agreed a year after it launched at MAPIC 2021. Start on site is scheduled to take place in June 2023.

Rioja Estates has announced that 38 per cent of the space at its Malmö Designer Village is now committed just a year after it launched to market at international retail real estate event MAPIC 2021, demonstrating continued confidence in the outlet sector, which has seen an upswing in recent years as economic turbulence and uncertainty have made consumers increasingly attracted to the good deals, high-quality brands and premium experiences that outlet centres offer.

Delivered by Rioja Estates in partnership with a team of renowned outlet experts, including TORG International and KLM Real Estate leading on leasing, Malmö Designer Village is predicted to be one of Europe’s best performing designer outlets, bringing an unrivalled mix of premium retail and dining brands to Southern Sweden, alongside landscaped gardens, seasonal events and multisensory elements – creating an exceptional shopping experience never before seen in the region. Malmö Designer Village will also offer a transactional website enabling visitors to shop online or browse product ranges and in-store availability from home before travelling.

Malmö Designer Village will feature 18,000sq m of premium international, independent and new-to-market brands, with its first phase opening in summer. It will further expand to nearly 27,000sq m in autumn 2027, increasing expected footfall to 2.5 million annually and placing it amongst the top 25 per cent of outlets in Europe in terms of visitor numbers. Purchasing power is 21 per cent higher than the European outlet industry average, placing the scheme in the top 25 per cent of European outlet centres in terms of potential visitor expenditure, which will reach €655M per year when Phase Two launches.
