Frasers Group’s Sports Direct has inked a new joint venture for Indonesia with local firm, PT. MAP Active Indonesia, as the sporting goods retailer looks to open physical stores in the Southeast Asian nation.

Via Frasers Group Asia Sdn Bhd (FGA), the agreement will see the introduction of the UK-based Sports Direct’s “elevated stores” across Indonesia and incorporates both wholesale and retail components. The collaboration is the first step in a region-wide expansion between two industry-leading corporations in retail, according to the companies.

The openings will also see many brands owned by Frasers Group become available to Indonesian consumers for the first time, including Karrimor, Everlast, Lonsdale, Slazenger, USA Pro, Firetrap, Soul Cal and Jack Wills.

“As part of our continued international expansion strategy and the success of our existing business in Malaysia, we are excited to grow our Southeast Asian footprint with a presence in Indonesia,” said Michael Murray, Frasers Group CEO.
