Wellbeing lifestyle brand Zedwell Hotels has opened its second site in London, submerged below Great Russell Street near Tottenham Court Road.
Zedwell Tottenham Court Road has been repurposed from a former car park and is accessed via an elevator that takes guests below ground.
Facilities include a 24/7 front desk with self-check-in kiosks, communal spaces, and 187 rooms or “cocoons” which come in a variety of sizes, sleeping from one person up to four people. Each cocoon features Hypnos beds, circadian rhythm lighting and rain showers. Purified air circulates throughout the subterranean space and noise-reducing walls, floors and doors have been constructed to limit distractions.
Darija Zivni Aziz, Head of Interior Design and Concept Architect at Zedwell, said: “This is a really exciting time for us, not just for our story, but for the city of London as a whole. Repurposing the former underground space into high quality accommodation is a game-changer and whilst not without its own challenges, has paved the way for a new kind of construction in the capital.”
