The Wai, MTR Corporation’s new mall in Hong Kong’s Tai Wai, opened to much fanfare on 22 July, less than a week following the disbursement of the Hong Kong government’s consumption vouchers on 16 July.
Situated atop Sha Tin’s Tai Wai station, The Wai spans 650,000sq ft, with four retail floors housing some 150 merchants.Among the major brands that have opened their stores at The Wai over the weekend are Nike, New Balance, Puma, Pandora, Uniqlo, Mercedes-Benz, Eslite, and Muji, while a number of others, including Owndays and Rains, are set to open soon.
The Wai also now houses the first cinema in the area, Emperor Cinemas Plus, which spans two floors and six independent movie houses.
The Wai features multiple entrances and newly constructed pedestrian footbridges that connect to the station, along with public transport interchanges connecting residential estates. Located above Tai Wai station, the mall is connected to two railway lines — Tuen Ma and East Rail lines — as well as major tunnels, providing access to Hong Kong, Kowloon, and New Territories.
