Following a formal tender process, Malmö Designer Village, which will be Scandinavia’s largest outlet destination once fully completed, has appointed a main contractor to build the eye-catching retail and leisure scheme.
Skanska, one of the world’s leading project development and construction companies, has been chosen for the multi-million euro project. The Stockholm headquartered company, founded some 135 years ago, now employs over 28,000 people in Europe and the Americas.
Once open, Malmö Designer Village will be one of the top retail outlet centres in Europe with some 1,500 people working there. Customers will enjoy an appealing combination of premium international brands, some of which are new to Sweden, popular Swedish brands, and a diverse choice of restaurants, bars and cafes set in beautifully landscaped grounds.
Giles Membrey, Managing Director of developer Rioja Estates, said: “The appointment of the main contractor is significant in our ambition to build a major shopping and leisure destination in northern Europe. We are investing over €150M into the project across two phases, to establish a premium shopping and leisure experience. We want to create a great destination for local people to visit again and again with their friends and family.”
The Malmö Designer Village site is located a 25-minute drive from Malmö and just 50 minutes from Copenhagen. The modern, uncovered design is inspired by local architectural style and culture.
