Ground has been broken on two new waterfront hotels, designed by Broadway Malyan for Mercan Properties, in the popular Portuguese city of Lagos, in the Algarve.
The two hotels, branded by Hilton as Lagos Marina Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn Lagos, are being developed by Mercan Properties Group and will join Broadway Malyan’s extensive hospitality portfolio in Portugal and beyond.
The hotels, for which Broadway Malyan has provided urban planning, architecture, interior design and landscape services, are being developed on adjacent plots and will deliver two elegant, contemporary buildings designed in a distinctive Portuguese Algarve resort context, picking up on region’s quality of the light and the unique atmosphere.
The 90-key Hilton Garden Inn property, which will include nine suites & 17 extended units, will be within walking distance of the nearby Lagos Marina and will feature a large, elevated sun deck with swimming pools and a bar overlooking a newly landscaped area. Designed in a light fresh palette of materials, the curvilinear flowing balconies add a playful element to the design while curved columns and a light well create a memorable sense of arrival at the entrance.
The 180-key Curio Collection by Hilton hotel has been designed with a complimentary palette of materials to its neighbour, although with more emphasis on natural elements including exposed timber dividers and contemporary white 3d tiles on the façade, providing a subtle nod to Portuguese heritage.
The hotel includes a large, light-filled lobby lounge, an indoor pool and spa and a large shaded external deck connected to the all-day dining restaurant with fire pit, providing panoramic views of Lagos Marina and the ocean beyond.
