Morrisons has unveiled its first 50 electric vehicle (EV) rapid charging points at its locations across the country, while planning to roll out a further 50. The grocer now has the largest network of rapid charging points in the UK and plans to double this number by 2020.
Its GeniePoint rapid charging points are able to charge an EV six-times quicker than standard charging points, charging a battery from empty to full in just 45 minutes. Morrisons announced its EV initiative and partnership with ChargePoint Services, which manufactures the rapid charging stations, back in March originally promising to install 100 by the end of the year.
“Providing convenient, fast charging facilities is essential in ensuring drivers have the confidence to switch to electric vehicles and reduce traffic pollution, Morrisons supermarkets are ideally situated in communities as drivers go about their day to day activities, and will make an important contribution as we build the most reliable rapid charging network nationwide.” – Engie EV, which owns GenioPoint Network, managing director Alex Bamberg said.
