UAE announces 300 new coronavirus cases, the total now stands at 2,659

The UAE has detected 300 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s total to 2,659, authorities announced on Wednesday.

In a press conference, Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the spokeswoman for the UAE health sector, added that an additional 53 Covid-19 patients have recovered, bring the total number of recoveries to 239.

To date, over 539,000 coronavirus tests have been carried out in the UAE.

In her remarks, Al Hosani said that the recovery rate for coronavirus patients around the world is below 25 per cent. While mild cases often recover in “two or three weeks”, severe cases can take significantly longer.

Additionally, Al Hosani harshly condemned some UAE residents for not disposing of medical masks properly. “We refuse such behaviour [such as] littering masks. They may be contaminated and might contribute to the spread of coronavirus,” she said. “We need to promote good behaviour and dispose of the masks in the trash cans available.”
