The LEGO Group has plans to open 80 new retail locations across China by the end of the year; it has been announced by the global toy giant.

The announcement comes after a recent flagship store was opened in the city of Hangzhou, the capital of east China’s Zhejiang Province. The store covers 527sq m and is adorned with paintings and models of Hangzhou’s famous tourist attractions that have been made using hundreds of thousands of LEGO bricks.

The recent outlet becomes the Danish company’s fourth flagship store in China, with the other three situated in Beijing and Shanghai. With the target of 80 new stores, the company will have 220 retail stores in China by the end of the year, which will allow them to cover more third- and fourth-tier cities in the country. “China is an important strategic market for the group, and we are confident in the Chinese market,” said Paul Huang, Senior Vice President of the LEGO Group and General Manager of LEGO China.
