Prime Day postponed until October

The annual Prime Day is set to be delayed by an additional month to October, according to reports from CNBC.

The sales bonanza event from online retail giant Amazon, which had already been delayed until September, is apparently now being pushed back by a further month to 5 October, according to leaked internal Amazon emails. Since its launch of an annual day in 2015, the company has traditionally held the event in mid-July.

Like many companies, Amazon has seen an ongoing surge in online orders that have come as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sales are up 26 per cent in Q1 according to Amazon’s first quarter earnings report. Meanwhile in Q2 they expect to make $4bn or more.

While the company does not release Prime Day results, analysts have made an estimate that the two-day Prime Day event in 2019 generated $6bn or more in gross merchandise volume.
