Amazon is in talks with Simon Property Group regarding converting some of its mall spaces into fulfilment centres.
As the biggest mall owners in the US, Simon is looking to fill empty retail spaces, particularly those left behind by former anchor tenants such as Sears and JC Penney and Amazon is hoping to fill these, accelerating their presence in as many malls as possible as well as seeking out stand-alone retail locations to complement their mall strategy.
It is not clear how many stores Amazon is considering or where the locations will be but having its fulfilment centre warehouse closer to residential areas will help Amazon make their deliveries more quickly.
