The convenience store retail chain plans to roll out automated checkout at select store across the US from next year.
Circle K are the latest company looking to implement automated checkout, betting on shoppers’ reluctance to stand in line. The move comes following other large retailers who have successfully trialled and switched to automated checkout including Amazon Go, Giant Eagle Inc and 7-Eleven.
A store in Phoenix will be the first to try out the cashierless checkout system and Circle K will still employ human cashiers for shoppers who prefer human contact and to handle more complicated transactions.
