Ahold Delhaize Launches New Payment Technology

The new payment method has been created in collaboration with ING bank.

The method has been developed with speed and ease of payment in mind and is expected to be faster than traditional card payments, even rivalling the speed of contactless payments. Upon registering, each customer is provided with a token, giving each shopper a unique customer number which replaces all of the customers other personal data and information. The advantage is that no personal data can be leaked, but there are also no complex procedures to register and set up the payment method.

As a result of the coronavirus crisis, contactless and other digital payments have been favoured over those of cash and chip and pin transactions, meaning the move comes at an integral time of consumer spending and will hopefully become a preferred payment method for shoppers. As well as being a feature in its physical stores, Ahold Delhaize will hope to run this payment method online in the Netherlands, too.
