The group has unveiled plans to expand its network of the MaxValu compact supermarkets stores in Vietnam, with 100 new locations set to open across the country by 2025.
The expansion plan will help Aeon further strengthen its position within the Vietnamese market where retail giants such as locally-owned Masan Group and Thailand’s Central Group continue to ramp up the competition. Last week Masan Group unveiled an expansion plan for its mini-mall chain WinMart+.
The expansion will include a larger store format with a floor space that spans 500sq m or more. Currently, MaxValu operates four stores in Vietnam, all situated in Hanoi. Furthermore, Aeon Group’s subsidiary Aeon Mall, aims to expand its network of mall in Vietnam from six to 16 by 2025.
Furusawa Yasuyki, General Director of Aeon Vietnam, commented: “Next year, Aeon Vietnam will focus on opening more business locations with diverse retail models including shopping malls, department stores, supermarkets, convenience stores and specialised stores.”
