Located in the Ruhr area of Germany, the new XXL shop occupies an area of 2000sq m which is around twice as large as the average store size.
The new Aldi store is the result of the amalgamation of two existing properties one of which is a former Aldi branch, with the other building being its adjoining property. The conversion of this space has seen the store grow by as much as 300sq m.
Aldi has been experimenting with a number of different store formats that are suitable for different areas. The flexible store concepts ensure that the retailer is adaptable to fit into both cities where space is more readily available and town centres where space is more scarce.
Customers will be able to shop a familiar product range – offering the high-quality discounter’s produce. The new store also features the ‘Meine Backwelt’ range which can be translated to ‘my baking world’. The new range features freshly-made baked products that are baked several times a day by employees at the site. Also located at the store is a herb garden that features six different types of herbs.
