The technology company is targeting 2600 new international brands for Tmall to keep up with growing demand.
Tmall is already a successful and established ecommerce platform for local Chinese and international businesses to sell brand name goods to consumers in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Following a significant growing demand in China for imported goods as a result of the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic, the company now plans to add 2600 international brands, with 2000 of these being added in time for their Singles Day event, the world’s biggest 24 hour shopping event.
The company has commented that the growing demand for overseas products from Chinese consumers is being driven by ongoing travel restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The move comes as a reflection of the 125 per cent increase in new brands launching on its platform between April and August with more than 200,000 new products launching from January to March.
