Allbirds are to open their second UK physical retail store, located at 46 Marylebone High Street, which will open on Thursday 20th February. A little over a year after opening the first London store in Covent Garden, which has already welcomed over 150,000 people, Allbirds continues to invest in physical retail. Set to double the global retail footprint in 2020, Marylebone will be Allbirds’s 17th store, hot on the heels of a new outpost in Tokyo.
With over 80% of shoe sales still conducted in-store, the sustainable materials company believes that there’s still strong consumer demand for a physical retail experience. The store allows Allbirds to educate its customers on the different benefits and properties of the novel natural materials that are used in their shoes and socks. By offering a tactile experience customers can touch, feel and engage in-person with the Merino wool, eucalyptus tree fibre and sugarcane that the products are made of.
Allbirds’s mission is to do better things in a better way, and this extends to the store experience, too. Shoeboxes are made from 90% post-consumer recycled cardboard, receipts are digital to save on paper and the store itself is carbon neutral. Taking inspiration from its neighbourhood, the store design will nod to nature and have a Regent’s Park theme.
