The fifth physical Amazon Fresh grocery store will be located in Camden, London on Chalk Farm Road.
The same as its other four stores in London, which are located in Canary Wharf, Ealing, Wembley Park and White City, the new Camden store will feature Amazon’s signature ‘Just Walk Out’ cashierless technology.
The very first store to utilise the technology was launched in Seattle in 2018. Following this, the online giant has rapidly rolled out the high tech solution grocery stores which utilise cameras and sensors to track which items a customer picks up and puts back before charging them automatically to the card set up to their account.
No further stores have yet been announced by Amazon, but it is understood that the retail giant is currently in talks with a number of landlords and intends to launch around 30 locations across the UK in the future.
Shore Capital’s Retail Analyst, Clive Back, commented: “We expect Amazon to be the key cog in the industry’s organisational change in the next five to 10 years. And we would be very surprised if it didn’t acquire a major British supermarket chain.”
