The online retail giant plans to add up to 1500 smaller delivery hubs dedicated primarily to the suburbs.
The addition of the new hubs is intended to speed up delivery waiting times as more and more retailers offer competitor services such as Walmart’s newly launch Walmart+ service which gives members unlimited free delivery from any of its 4700 stores.
The news follows another recent announcement from Amazon that they are planning to hire up to 100,000 new part and full-time workers to keep up with the new higher demand that is expected to continue into peak season towards the end of the year.
The company also commented that they intent to open 100 more new operations facilities this month including fulfilment centres, delivery stations, sortation centres as well as others across a number of states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
