The promotion is expected to create $9.91bn in worldwide sales, which would make this Prime Day the biggest one to date.
Amazon launched Prime Day, its own shopping holiday five years ago, and each year more and more discounts, savings and deals have been available throughout the promotion. Prime Day gives members of Amazon Prime exclusive access to a number of deals over a 24 hour period day. Each year sales have increased between 50 and 60 per cent every year with more than 175 million products purchased in the 2019 event.
Each year, Prime Day is held in March, however due to the Coronavirus the event has been pushed back until today. The company expects that this later event will likely result in a stronger performance as they expect that many customers will purchase many products for the holiday season.
Expert analysis expects that sales in the US alone will total $6.17bn which will contribute 62 per cent to total sales.
