Amazon to grow grocery store footprint

More inroads are being made by the online giant Amazon into the world of physical retail.

Cashier-less “Amazon Go” grocery stores are being planned in Redmon, Washington State and Washington D.C. as part of a wider grocery expansion it was reported by The Seattle Times.

The initial Amazon Go grocery store opened its doors back in February in Seattle. It is modelled on and uses the same technology as Amazon Go, but on a bigger scale. It features a larger footprint (10,400sq ft overall, with 7,700sq ft in front of house) compared to Amazon Go stores, which range from 450sq ft to 2,700sq ft front of house) and a much wider assortment of product, with about 5,000 unique items.

Conventional grocery stores are also being planned by Amazon in North Hollywood, California and the Chicago suburbs Oak Lawn, Schamburg and Naperville, the Seattle Times reported.
