Following the news, it is expected that 530 of AMC’s 600 locations will begin screening films again.
The reopening of the AMC Theatres follow Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement that movie theatres would be able to reopen again. Dozens of theatres have already reopened in New York State this week and several more are expected to open from October 23.
The leisure industry has been hard hit by the impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic, with forced closures across the world and so the news was exceptionally well welcomed, particularly after Regal Cinemas shut down earlier this month following MGM/Universal delayed the release of the new James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’ until next year.
“It has become clear that movie studios are not willing to release blockbuster product until key major markets are open. Therefore, it is a monumental step in the right direction for our entire industry that theatres are starting to open across the state of New York,” commented Adam Aron, Chief Executive Officer at AMC.
Films that are expected to be shown at the reopened AMC Theatres include ‘Tenet’, ‘Honest Thief’ and ‘2 Hearts’.
