Following the ever increasing demand for e-commerce in the midst of Covid-19, American Eagle is the latest retailer to rollout robots in its distribution centres.
The specialty apparel retailer is installing 26 new units of piece-picking robots in its US distribution centres to meet required social distancing measures among staff and to keep up with the surge in e-commerce sales. Rather than having to stand side-by-side with other employees to conduct pick and place operations, one employee can manage three to four sorting robots.
The robots will utilise AutoGrasp, an intelligence platform that identifies and singulates items to pick and place into an automated putwall. AutoGrasp combines vision, grasping and manipulation algorithms to move clothing as well as other small items.
