The billionaire brothers, Mohsin and Zuber Issa, who own Asda, are considering expanding the grocer’s c-store format on petrol forecourts across Europe.
The Issa brothers are already planning to open 200 Asda on the Move convenience stores on EG Group forecourts across the UK before the end of next year. They are also considering the launch a new smaller format supermarket. Among other plans, the pair intend to bring the Asda on the Move convenience store format across some of EG Group’s more than 3,000 petrol forecourts across Europe.
The brothers operate petrol forecourts in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and Italy. Any expansion of the Asda on the Move concept into these regions would be complicated by Brexit and the lasting impact it has had on many retailers.
In their existing supermarkets, the Issa brothers are considering rolling out food courts, increasing the clothing offering and introducing a number of health and beauty brands.
