Awok.com Ceases Trading

The UAE based e-commerce platform blames coronavirus for their demise.

A year after winning $30M in financing, one of the largest investment rounds in the region, the platform has shut down, blaming the current global pandemic as a significant contributor to the company ceasing trading. Founded in 2013, the company intended to bring affordable products to everyone in the MENA region, with products sometimes available for as little as AED 1.

A statement on the company’s website reads: “Awok’s journey as a mass market e-commerce player has unfortunately come to an end, and the company has ceased operations. After seven incredible years of saving money for our customers by creating regional business and a platform for our supplies and sellers, we are sad to inform you that given the current global situation it left the company no other choice to close its platform for good.”
