Bahrain Reveals New Ambitious Tourism Strategy

The new strategy intends to increase the number of annual tourists to the Kingdom to 14.1M by 2026.

The new tourism strategy, which was announced by Zayed R. AlZayani,  Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister, is based on seven pillars of development: marine attractions, business tourism, sports tourism, recreational tourism, medical tourism, cultural tourism, media tourism and cinematography. The strategy is part of the new 2022-2026 tourism strategy, which is designed to increase the sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP.

AlZayani went on to reveal the strategy’s framework, which includes four main objectives – to increase the contribution of tourism to GDP (Growth Domestic Product) to reach 11.4 per cent in 2026; highlight Bahrain’s position as a global tourist hub; increase the number of targeted countries to attract more tourists, and to diversify tourism products.

The launch of the new tourism strategy follows the implementation of major national tourism projects which includes the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre in Sakhir, expected to be completed by the end of the year.
