Carrefour to Double Saudi Store Network

Majid Al Futtaim currently operates 21 Carrefour stores across nine cities in Saudi Arabia, the Dubai-based group intends to double its Saudi network by 2025.

Carrefour, which operates a number of different store formats, as well as multiple online offerings, continues to adapt to meet the ever-growing and increasing needs of its customer base. Majid Al Futtaim recorded a 258 per cent increase in online sales in Saudi Arabia last year thanks to the continued surge in online shopping as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. This surge has led the group to accelerate its expansion plans for the region.

Hani Weiss, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, commented: “This year, Majid Al Futtaim is working toward opening six new stores in the Kingdom, three hypermarkets and three supermarkets, and plans to double its store footprint by 2025.”

As part of its expansion plans for Saudi Arabia, MAF signed an agreement with global infrastructure consulting firm AECOM to help plan the development of the group’s Mall of Saudi project in Riyadh. Mall of Saudi will house a Carrefour hypermarket alongside the largest ski slope and snow park in the Middle East, luxury hotels and 31 VOX Cinema screens.
