Established as the luxury market in South America, and the second in Latin America after Mexico, Brazil has been the country chosen by Rei Kawakubo to debut in the region with the first single-brand store of her firm Comme des Garçons.
Data from local media Valor Económico reveals that the Japanese brand will join the board of directors of the Iguatemi São Paulo shopping centre, a complex that is home to independent boutiques of Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Hermès and Loewe in South American territory.
The brand founded in 1969 by Kawakubo has scheduled its debut in Brazil for May 2025, without revealing further details. Following the announcement, Iguatemi SA’s Commercial Vice President, Ciro Neto, spoke out, highlighting that the arrival of Comme des Garçons in the country reinforces the relevance of the Brazilian market on the world fashion scene.
“We are proud to be the exclusive gateway to this iconic brand, with the creative direction of designer Rei Kawakubo, one of the most influential and authentic figures in current fashion,” said Neto.
An essential guest on the Paris Fashion Week calendar, Comme des Garçons will present its new collection on 28 September.
