Customers in the UAE are embracing online shopping and saying goodbye to the standard trips to the grocery market as trends change because of the effects of Covid-19.

The research comes from the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is based on data from Google Trends that shows restrictions that were introduced due to the Covid-19 pandemic have led consumers to actually favour online grocery shopping. It became the new norm for many in the UAE between March and May 2020, with online searches for the category having peaked during the lockdown period in April.

This is not the only trend that has peaked in the UAE either, as the findings from Dubai Chamber revealed searches for ‘online courses’ surged throughout April as consumers in the region turned to e-learning to help them improve their skills. The shift also drove a higher frequency of online searches for furniture, in line with consumers’ need of home office workspaces.
