Costa Coffee is Cutting Jobs

There are expected to be around 1650 job cuts.

The decision is as a direct result of Costa closing nearly all of their 2700 UK stores for six weeks during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. The brand remains uncertain as to when they will get back to pre-Covid levels despite opening 2400 of those stores that were closed.

Neil Lake, Managing Director for Costa Coffee UK and Ireland has commented on the company’s difficult decision to make job cuts: “Today’s announcement to our store teams was an extremely difficult decision to make. Our baristas are the heart of the Costa business and I am truly sorry that many now face uncertainty following today’s news.”

Following the news, Costa has now started a consultation process with its staff and hopes to find new staff roles for some within the business.
