The French clothing and sports equipment brand is committed to a smaller and more flexible format, with a 450sq m store in the El Tesoro shopping centre in Medellin.
The new store is the first of many
small-format Decathlon openings planned in the country and region. With
surfaces below 500sq m and complete omni-channel digital integration, the brand
thus accompanies its large-format stores of between 1,500 and 3,000sq m for
greater market coverage.
In mid-November, the French opened the doors of its ninth store in Colombia,
with a space in the Plaza Fabricato shopping centre in Bello, near Medellín,
and confirmed more openings in the country, although without specifying dates.
At the beginning of 2020, Decathlon
inaugurated a large supply center for the Colombian market, with a warehouse of
about 10,000 meters in the city of Bogotá, from where the logistics of the
physical and virtual operation are coordinated.
Meanwhile, Decathlon continues to establish itself in the region with new
openings in Chile and Uruguay. The French chain of sports stores recently
opened the doors of a new location in Bío Bío, Chile, the first store outside
of Santiago, as well as its first location in Montevideo.
Decathlon landed in Colombia in 2017 and has since democratized sportswear in
the country. The chain employs more than 400 people directly in the
national territory, between its office activities and the management of its
stores.
