Decathlon to Open Three Columbia Sites this Year

The French sportswear chain Decathlon is confident in the Colombian market, even after a 2023 full of challenges and confirms the opening of three new physical stores in the country this year.

During 2023, Decathlon opened the doors of three new physical stores, with a presence in Manizales, Cali and Bogotá and by 2024 it plans three more openings; the first of the year, in Cali, and subsequently two openings in the second half of the year. The company had budgeted to grow at a rate of two openings per year, but it is opening three.

Currently, Decathlon has 16 stores in Colombian territory, including its online store. By the end of 2024 the figure will be 19 stores and it is estimated that by 2026, the chain will have 26 stores in the country. Since its arrival in Colombia, the chain has been committed to the employability of young people, managing to have more than 800 employees to date, of which 95 per cent show a level of satisfaction with the company and the majority are under 40 years old.

Recently, Decathlon announced its new work rhythm of only 40 hours a week, a practice that is closer to the French schedule than the Colombian one. The new measure proposes working fewer hours for the same salary, improving the quality of life, productivity and the happiness index at work of its collaborators.
