Dolce & Gabbana Unveil Flagship

Italy’s Dolce & Gabbana has opened its first flagship store in Sydney, Australia, taking its store count in the nation to three standalone boutiques.

The new two-storey Sydney boutique is situated inside the Sydney MLC Centre tower, on Martin Place, and presents as an elegant glass trove with a contemporary style.

Designed as a creative collaboration between Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, along with Eric Carlson from Parisian architecture studio Carbondale, the glass facade allows outside light to illuminate the spaces, and allows passers-by a view of the Italian label’s latest men’s, women’s and accessories collections — hosted in special polished Redgum wood displays finished with white onyx, which alternate along the profile of the extensive glass windows.

Two concave apses, riffing on chapels and sculpted in yellow gold and yellow Siena Italian marble, form a backdrop for the collections, while the floor in the store features a black basalt, a material that reflects Sicily, where the brand founders originate from. The store is also home to a mezzanine that connects to the ground floor through a sculptural volcanic rock staircase. The upstairs space is veiled by vertical tubes coated with white veneer, while inside is finished with silk and velvet gold damask textiles and marble intarsia floors.

The new Dolce & Gabbana Sydney store joins the brand’s other Australian stores in Melbourne and Chadstone, respectively.
