The delivery robots have been founded by Turkish tech start-up company, Delivers AI.
Following a trial period where a fleet of 10 robots delivered over 500 items in Istanbul, Delivers AI now hopes to bring the technology to residents in Dubai Internet City, Dubai Mall and Jumeirah Beach Residencies later this year. According to the company’s Founder, Ali Kutay Yarali, by implementing the robots “businesses can reduce their costs as well as their carbon footprint. It is faster, cheaper and more hygienic.”
The robots can move at a speed of 7km/h and a have a maximum range of 3km and can be deployed within a 1.5km radius of their central kitchen hub. The robots are equipped with sensors, on-board cameras and light detection to ensure safe navigation among traffic, pedestrians and other obstacles. The robots can carry as much as 15kg.
Ali Kutay Yarali, concludes: “We have started discussions with the RTA to use similar legislation from the US that would allow these robots to be used here. Hopefully that will happen sometime in 2021.”
