Edinburgh Launches Virtual Christmas Markets

The city’s iconic Christmas market is set to take place virtually for the first time with retailers able to take advantage of a few virtual shop window.

Given the recent Covid-19 restrictions, the organisers of the markets have announced that the city’s Christmas markets would move to take place online, in a virtual format. Each festive period, Edinburgh Christmas market has attracted millions of guests, who have come to shop for unique, artisan gifts for their loved ones.

The local council has now laid out plans to offer hundreds of artisan retailers, gift-makers, local retailers, gift companies, clothing businesses and food and drinks sellers the chance to showcase their produce online. The market is entirely free to sign up to, and it will act as a directory to direct people to a fantastic range of local suppliers where they can purchase and interact on the supplier’s own site.

Ruth Fisher, Producer of Edinburgh’s Christmas for Underbelly said: “Edinburgh’s Christmas is a hugely important event for the city and this year’s digital programme has been designed to put Edinburgh’s residents and businesses first.  The new Christmas Neighbourhood Market is designed to shine a spotlight on the wealth of products and produce that we have here in Edinburgh and encourage residents to shop locally this Christmas.”
