Uniqlo and GU are set to sell all apparel in Japan at special value prices with displayed prices to be tax-inclusive from March 12.
The displayed prices of Uniqlo and GU apparel, which up to now have been the pre-tax price, will be unchanged and regarded as the tax-inclusive price. This represents a discount of approximately 9 per cent compared to the current price. Product prices shown on tags and at the brands’ online stores will all be tax inclusive.
This new policy is being implemented ahead of the expiration of the Act for Special Measures concerning price representations on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fast Retailing commented on the news: “By keeping the prices as many items as possible unchanged, and offering LifeWear at tax-inclusive, affordable prices, we hope to remain an integral part of the everyday lives of our customers. This is our mission, and the significance of our existence as an apparel company.”
