The inaugural Pokémon GO Tour: Live Event is coming to the newly opened Yas Bay Waterfront on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island as a real-world extension of the global game live event.
The event, which is set to take place on Saturday 26 February 2022, is hosted by Niantic, the augmented reality company behind Pokémon GO, in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), Miral and AD Gaming. Gamers in Yas Bay will be joined by participants at other live events taking place at the same time from across the world at Kaohsiung, Taiwan at the Taiwan Lantern Festival and Monterrey, Mexico at the Parque Fundidora.
The ticketed event will include real-world habitats, special in-game features, photo ops, a special game plan and exclusive merchandise. Earlier this year, DCT Abu Dhabi announced a AED30+ billion investment strategy to accelerate Culture and Creative Industries (CCI) in the capital emirate, while twofour54 launched AD Gaming, a new initiative to aggregate the emirate’s efforts in building a gaming and e-sports gaming community.
The gaming industry in Abu Dhabi has recently been recognised as a priority sector for growth, with the industry’s global revenues expected to reach $217.9bn in 2023 from $174.9bn in 2020.
