Gulf retail veteran Spinneys has opened its inaugural store in Saudi Arabia, marking the brand’s expansion outside its core markets of UAE and Oman.
Located in Riyadh’s emerging mixed-use development La Strada Yard, the 43,520sq ft supermarket offers fresh and premium products including imports, local items and private label ranges. Extensive bakery, meat and meal solution facilities have been established on-site to ensure produce freshness.
“Our entry into Saudi Arabia, a historic moment for a homegrown UAE brand, is driven by strong demand and positive market fundamentals, bolstered by the transformative Saudi Vision 2030, which has created an ideal environment for retail sector growth. Our track record in the GCC, coupled with best-in-class insights and partnerships in the Kingdom, give us a robust platform and we look forward to becoming a trusted name in the market,” CEO Sunil Kumar said.
The new opening comes as Saudi Arabia continues economic reforms including initiatives to increase expatriate population and household spending. The sizable ‘whitespace’ opportunity projected in the retail sector represents scope for Spinneys’ growth.
More stores are planned for Riyadh and Jeddah this year, with twelve envisioned nationally by 2028. The new La Strada store aims to mirror supermarket chain’s high standards across quality, variety and accessibility.
