FoodPanda Launches in Japan

The launch of the food delivery service into Japan marks the brands 12th market across the Asia-Pacific.

The service has initially been launched in three Japanese cities including Kobe, Yokohama and Nagoya with plans to add Sapporo, Fukuoka and Hiroshima by October 1 this year. Without revealing any specific details the company also said that it would like to grow the number of cities that the service is available in to a double-digit figure.

As well as offering their usual food delivery service, FoodPanda is also partnering with a number of local retailers to deliver daily essentials and groceries to customers within 25 minutes. By expanding their offering and looking to appeal to a wider audience, the company is both securing further business and opportunities for themselves whilst assisting those who may have been badly affected by the ongoing effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

FoodPanda has scaled its business and offerings amidst the global pandemic, with Chief Executive Officer Jakob Sebastian Angele commenting: “In the first half of 2020, we expedited on-boarding and doubled the number of merchants and riders on our platform across the region, so their businesses can survive the economic impact, while rider partners can continue to earn a living.”
