The footwear brand will be added to Fred Perry Holding’s wider group of British brands which includes Fred Perry and Lavenham.
George Cox is a name that is synonymous with quality and craftsmanship. Now a fifth-generation business, the George Cox brand began in 1906 with just two styles – the Derby and the Oxford – each hand-crafted with high-quality leather. The brand continued to grow and eventually launched the iconic ‘Brothel Creeper’ shoe which has a defining excessively chunky sole in textured plantation crepe, which became the world’s first creeper.
Following the acquisition, George Cox will be integrated into Fred Perry Holding’s long-term investment strategy and will have access to the global niche distribution network and digital expertise of the overall group. George Cox has commented that they are looking forward to the opportunity “to further develop as a global brand broadening their reach to a wider range of people around the world.”
Fred Perry has released a statement that Adam Waterfield will remain Managing Director of George Cox, and Steve Gollings will remain on as Head of Operations.
