The luxury brand will open its own webshop on the second-hand platform, where customers can purchase pre-loved items.
This partnership comes as predictions begin to mount that the second-hand fashion market will grow from $28bn to $64bn by 2025, with the main attributing factor being declared as sustainability and the importance that it is now playing on the fashion industry. Gucci is amongst the first of any luxury retail brand to collaborate with a second-hand platform with many others steering clear of selling their products on such platforms.
The webshop will be called Gucci x TRR, and the items available on the shop will be rotated consistently. Items will be delivered by Gucci as well as by other customers.
Julie Wainwright, Founder of The RealReal, commented: “We have to get people thinking about the life cycle of what they buy. One garbage truck’s worth of textiles is landfilled or burned every second. Fashion can’t continue being disposable – we have to buy things that are well made and resll when we’re done with them. Partnering and collaborating directly with brands, as we are with Gucci, is a meaningful way for us to harness their influence to increase exposure to the important of circular fashion.”
